Wow, this is an impressive list of firsts. What an adventure. Thank you for sharing, it was so interesting and at times heartbreaking to read through. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers ❤️
Food for thought there Maureen, I know I have had a few firsts also, but nothing as exhilarating as yours, particularly the rafting or hang gliding. I didn’t particularly like school as I always felt friendless, although interestingly this year I had contact out of the blue from two people I went to a primary school with, so I must have been more important to them than I knew. One in particular I haven’t seen for 70 years! I loved acting so to be in two of the school plays was a first for me, and it wasn’t until my husband said to me when I wanted to buy some art for our holiday home, “you can paint something”, that was the start of my art journey. To write a composition or essay at High School was not something I wasn’t good at, but when I decided to revisit our holidays due to not being able to travel, and I had found Substack, that was my first foray into writing publicly. I still don’t think I am that good at it, but I’m ok with that, the main thing is I’m happy. Again I am sending healing thoughts to you and with hope everything works out for the best. 🤗
I love that your friends reached out to you. I’m curious if you fell right into being that youngster again after 70 years. I have many friends from grade school and middle school on Facebook. Those carefree innocent times were great and worth a reminder. I love the connection even though it’s only online.
I feel similar about writing, which is why I hold onto drafts too long. I need to let it rip and channel my inner hang glider! xo
The friend that I was in grade 4 with was searching for me on FB and it was another friend who notified me of the fact. When we finally connected we spent ages on the phone reminiscing. The one thing that stuck in her mind was when I got into trouble for sticking my pencil through my jumper. I was asked not to do it but did it again and the teacher hit me with the strap, I got such a shock I passed out. Poor Mr Surridge, he got so upset. I’m still the same, don’t tell me what to do lol…
What a powerful post! Holding good thoughts for you.
Thank you Abby! Your good thoughts matter! XO
